Aleksandër Moisiu University in Durrës (AUMD) is a public academic institution of the Republic of Albania. The University is located in Durrës and was founded by the Albanian government on 20 December 2005 . Being a multidisciplinary university, it offers six major fields of studies and more than forty programs in undergraduate studies (Bachelor Degree) and graduate studies (Professional Masters, Masters of Science and Doctoral School of Business). The number of the currently enrolled students is above 9000 (nine thousand) students and the university is one of the best higher education institutions in Albania. Through the establishment of “Aleksander Moisiu” University, the Albanian government wanted to offer the best experience of Western Europe Higher education practices.
Students are the main focus of the University and are considered the key stakeholders in every academic activity. Consequently, every university process and facility is oriented in providing the best university experience to the students. This is achieved through a highly motivated and qualified academic staff, computer facilities and a variety of extra-curricular activities. Differently from other public universities in the country, AMUD is using the American grading system. The university offers unique studying curricula, Information Systems major being one of them.
Information Systems are becoming an integral in modern society and are a primary engine behind much of the world's economic and social change. In order for the young professionals to implement an IS, they do not only need the in-depth knowledge and skills, but also need to understand the context in which computer technology can best be selected, applied and implemented.
The major of Information Systems at Aleksander Moisiu University will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to plan, develop and integrate applications and IS into a global business environment. The mission of this program is to provide the students with the fundamentals of current and emerging information systems technology, organization theory, decision making, teamwork and leadership skills as well as research methods. They will acquire the skills to analyze existing IS, develop new systems and find solutions to common IS management issues.
This course provides students with knowledge on the development of Information Systems in business organizations, which today operates in a global environment and face with the development of new technologies. Concepts taught in this course provide students with the knowledge of how to analyze information systems to succeed as future analysts in the field of information systems which are viewed from the persceptive of business needs. Throughout the content of this course the system analyst occupies an important part in the group of actors that participate in the development of information systems. This course focuses on system analysis fundamentals, information requirements analysis, the analysis process, the essentials of design, quality assurance and implementation of information systems.
This course addresses and it covers basic concepts and management of databases. The course will enable students to learn: normalization and transformation of data into databases with DBMS. The course will emphasize the Relational Model.
During the course, students individually or in groups, will carry out an application with MS SQL.
E-business as a new form of business is business communications and advanced technology, namely the induction of technology in the service business. The course aims to introduce students to the concept and forms of electronic business, and also to learn the necessary safety aspects of electronic commerce. Through the course students not only able to use the infrastructure that provides e-business, but also able to manage certain forms of doing business electronically.
After completing this course, students will have a broad understanding of global eCommerce. The course focuses on concepts that will help students understand and be able to discuss both the opportunities, the threats and the challenges offered by eCommerce, which is dramatically altering the way business is conducted and driving major shifts in the global economy. The course covers key topics including privacy and piracy; government surveillance; cyber-war; social, local and mobile marketing; Intellectual Property; and more.
Introduction to Information System (IS) is one of the fundamental courses required for the professional development of our students. The course will outline the importance of implementing a solid information system from the most sophisticated form of organization to the simplest one. It is crucial for the organizations living in such a computerized environment to have a solid IS.
Intro to Information System will provide to our young student the necessary knowledge and in-depth understanding of the system.
The aim of the course is to provide the basic knowledge and understanding on the nature of information systems, the components and its importance as an integral part of all organizational activities and functions. This course is designed to introduce students to contemporary information systems and demonstrate the usage of the systems through different size of organizations (i.e. globally).
Thus, the focus of the course will be on the key components of information systems – human capital , software, hardware, data and communication technologies – and how the components can be integrated and managed to create competitive advantage. The student, through the understanding of how IS enables competitive advantage, will acquire the knowledge of how information is used in organizations and how IT enables improvement in quality, speed, and agility.
Topics covered in this course include: definition of an information system; interaction among components; principal systems technologies (e.g. database, networking); use of information systems in organizations.
