Doctoral studies in information systems are organized by the Institute for Advanced Management Systems Research (IAMSR). Our research institute has operated since 1992 and now builds on cooperation both with a dozen of Finnish companies and a network of research groups at TU Delft, the Netherlands, University of Trento, Italy and City University, Hong Kong. Big Data and Analytics become both an essential resource for business and an efficient, effective and develop-able instrument for achieving the strategic targets that modern corporations face. The course provides the students with a basis for understanding
these relations; the students will be able to independently study further and understand the development of Big Data instruments and their strategic consequences, and to formulate
new strategic solutions for corporations facing the challenges posed by advances in Big Data Analytics.
The course discusses the most important tools for understanding the potential impact of analytics on decision making and business performance. The course targets students in Information Systems and Business Administration. The course will focus on different organizational decision making problems and how different analytical methods can be used to improve operational efficiency and financial performance. Different software tools will be used in the course to familiarize the students with the most important methods in analytics.
The Faculty of Social Sciences, Business and Economics at Åbo Akademi university, which has started on the 1 st of January 2015, joins together the central scientific fields of business, jurisprudence and social sciences. The faculty sees huge advantages within the cross-boundary collaboration and the combination of width and depth of subjects and fields of knowledge. The basic education comprises courses and study programmes on both Bachelor- and Master level.
Science of high international standard is carried out within the faculty. Information and customer behavior in digital business; entrepreneurship and innovations; creative economics; sustainability; labour economics; human rights; elections; democracy; cultural policy; religion in Swedish speaking Finland. These are a few examples of the current fields of research at the faculty.
The faculty operates in Turku (Åbo) and Vaasa. In Turku the activities are mainly concentrated to three campuses; ASA, Hanken and Domvillan. Apart from those some functions can also be found in Åhuset. In Vaasa the main activity can be found in Academill.
