Business Analytics

Lecture

SAP Business Intelligence delivers insight into every aspect of your organization by distributing information on premise, on device, and via the cloud. With native integration to SAP HANA, users have the ability to model business scenarios in real-time, adding tremendous value to your business.

In this course, you will gain hands-on experience in deploying business intelligence (BI) on SAP HANA, leveraging it both as a data source and as a platform. Learn how SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.1 is optimized for SAP HANA, and explore new features that take advantage of the speed and agility offered by SAP HANA. Benefit from best practices for design, development, and troubleshooting of BI. Simplify your SAP BusinessObjects BI toolkit with scenarios that help you select the right client for a particular business need.

 399
Lecture

The main objective of this curriculum is to demonstrate the most important concepts of Business Intelligence by means of case studies. Main concepts that are taught are: online analytical processing (OLAP), multidimensional modeling, data warehouse principles and architectures, ETL.  The case studies are done on a SAP NetWeaver BW 7.31 system and therefore provide hands-on experience with SAP NetWeaver BW technology. However, the aim of the curriculum is not to demonstrate all SAP NetWeaver BW product features.

The cases are based on the Global Bike 2.11 data that have been enriched for analytics.

The curriculum consists out of several modules. Each module has one or more case studies. We provide a step-by-step solution for all exercises. In general, we distinguish two types of modules: Use BI and build BI. Whereas build BI is mainly tailored for more technically oriented students (IT, computer science) and future BI experts, use BI aims at a wider audience of all students that might come into contact with Business Intelligence as an end user.

Computers and the Internet, smartphones and apps have pervaded our daily lives. Working without computers is hardly imaginable; we go shopping on the Internet and order a taxi with a smartphone app. The ongoing digital transformation will reinforce this even more. The digitization of our personal lives, companies, and industries exposes many new opportunities and can add comfort to our daily routines. However, network connections to homes, businesses, and industrial facilities and virtual controls not only allow access to legitimate users, but are also zones for malicious forces to attack. This course illustrates how our world has become more and more digitized and highlights the unfamiliar threats that lurk in the shadows of the bright new digital age.

 557
Lecture

To avoid disruption, businesses need to digitally transform immediately. Leaders need to accept the need for change and support changes to ensure the transformation is a success.
In this course, you’ll learn how to master the Digital Transformation including how cloud computing, devices, data and networks play important roles. You’ll also hear real-life examples from businesses who have successfully completed their digital transformation.

In this game, participants will buy and sell bottled water to small corner stores in the German market. Using a continuous-time simulation, students are put in a situation in which they have to run their business with a real-life ERP (SAP ERP) system.  This distribution company which sells bottled water was developed to teach the basic concepts of process integration, focusing on planning, procurement, and sales. The distribution game consists of 60 simulated days split into three rounds of 20 days each. This game is designed to be played in two to three hours and is perfectly suited for single lecture use in courses such as Introduction to MIS. The distribution game is design to be played by teams of two to four students each, and supports up to 26 simultaneous teams in play, for a potential total of over a hundred students.

 639
Lecture

The ERP Simulation Game is an innovative learning-by-doing approach to teaching ERP concepts. Using a continuous-time simulation, students are put in a situation in which they have to run their business with a real-life ERP (SAP ERP) system.  The manufacturing game consists of producing and selling Muesli breakfast cereals to the German market.
By living the simulation, in real time, students gain an excellent understanding of what it takes to operate a real company with an integrated system as opposed to a simulated environment that only focuses on strategy. Using SAP standard and customized reports, students have to analyze these transactions and make business decisions to ensure the profitability of their operations.
This game is designed for teams of four to six students and scale to run up to 26 simultaneous teams. Teams of students operate a firm in a make-to stock manufacturing supply chain and must interact with suppliers and customers by sending and receiving orders, delivering their products and completing the whole cash-to-cash cycle. A simulation program (ERPsim) was developed to automate the sales process, so that every firm receives a large number of orders in each period of the simulation, (ii) part of the production process in order to account for production capacity, and (iii) part of the procurement process to account for delay in delivery and payment. Using standard and customized reports in SAP, students must analyze their transactional data to make business decisions and ensure the profitability of their operations.
The game is played over a succession of rounds each consisting of 30 simulated days. This game can be played in two scenarios. The first scenario is a simple introductory game designed to quickly introduce the students to the core concepts and business processes of SAP, over one or two classes. The second scenario, or extended version of the game, has wider scope to further explore SAP functionality and business process. The manufacturing game is suited for integration into the complete curriculum of a longer course. We recommend both scenarios be played, one after the other.
The Academic Fact Sheet attached below provides more information about ERPSim as well as the manufacturing and distribution games currently available.
For the manufacturing games (e.g. introduction and extended), purchase of a Participant’s Guide in electronic format is required. Please note that the authors of the book have renounced their copyrights in favour of the ERPsim Lab. The mission of this lab is to ensure the continued development and support of this simulation software. The proceeds from the sale of the book are used to fund the faculty support web site, and the team behind it. For more information visit http://erpsim.hec.ca/book. The purchase provides access to the simulation as well as additional multimedia content in the ERPsim learning portal (http://erpsim.hec.ca/learning) to help students master SAP functions and processes, as well as game concepts. Material for certified faculty is also available via the ERPsim learning portal.
