Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP) is the largest and one of the most dynamic polytechnic schools in the country, emerging as first in the Polytechnic ranking and, along with other major Universities, it is placed in the upper segment of the higher education national ranking. IPP involves more than 20 R&D units, and is the best positioned in international scientific rankings in Portugal.
The School of Accounting and Administration of Porto (ISCAP), the host of this conference, is considered the business school of IPP and is located in S. Mamede de Infesta (Matosinhos), very close to the IPP Campus, offering its 4000-strong student population a range of innovative programmes in the business and management area (6 undergraduate courses, 8 Master courses, and others).
Over the years ISCAP has increased its international experience and has been a partner in several international networks, such as AFECA, SPACE, EdiNeb and in SOCRATES/Lifelong Learning Programme, namely in ERASMUS, MINERVA, GRUNDTVIG, COMENIUS and in LEONARDO. Nowadays, ISCAP is involved in several European projects under the LLL Programme, both as partner and coordinator. ISCAP has research centers covering the majority of the scientific fields, namely intercultural studies, business, management, law, accounting, information systems, specialized communication, applied languages, innovation and education. The elearning area at the IPP emerged at ISCAP about 15 years ago with the PAOL project. This experience allows ISCAP to say that it is one of the most dynamic schools as for elearning is concerned.
This course graduates qualified professionals in the Information Science area (Librarianship, Archival Science and Information and Communication Techniques) concerning information management (technologies and other material and human resources);
Our graduates will be able to develop specialized continuous training and a technical, scientific and humanist culture open to internationalization.
They will also specialise in different information skills and tools and document management skills (technologies and other material and human resources); our graduates will also possess a solid theoretical and practical background in evaluating, selecting, storing, organising, treating technically, researching and analysing documents and information.
Grants the necessary tools to work as technician or consultant in private and public organizations as: Information manager; Document process manager; Institutional repository manager; Digital Content Managers; Librarian (Universities, Schools, Town Halls, Museums, Foundations, etc.); Archivist (Hospitals, Court Rooms, Banks, Historic and Audio-visual archives, etc.); Documentalist specialising in several areas (Law, Economics and Finance, Health, Culture, etc.); Database manager; Information Systems Manager; Information research expert; Information management consultant.
The Master Degree in Business Information (MBI) is an innovative training in Information Science in Portugal.
MBI graduates will be able to work as information managers in a business context.
The Master program promotes entrepreneurship and innovation capabilities. MIB graduates will have a syncretic profile allowing them to recognize information as a strategic asset to the management of business organisations.
MBI graduates will be able to promote the optimisation of processes associated with information creation and use, in order to support the organisation's performance.
Considering information as a transversal issue in any organisation, the Master degree in Business Information is of interest to students and professionals from a broad range of fields.
